Sea Monster helped Capitec deliver financial education to their consumers in a new and effective way

As part of a multi-year strategy to use games to drive business goals for the bank, linked to consumer financial education, Livin' it Up serves as a channel for Capitec to gain greater insight into their users whilst delivering engaging financial lessons.

Design and develop a mobile game to promote financial capability.

Capitec, the largest retail bank in South Africa, wanted a fresh approach to help South African consumers improve their knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours required to make sound financial decisions.

Balancing happiness, home and career on the path to success.

The Livin' it Up experience is a careful mix of home design, financial management and fun action mini-games, packaged within a narrative journey about desires and goals.

Playing out as “a real South African story”, players take on the role of several relatable characters as they save money towards their individual long-term goals. Each story arc takes place over a number of years in a character’s life, dealing with events related to work, home, family, money and the occasional bit of load-shedding.

Throughout the game, players are gently guided through basic financial concepts, equipping them to make better financial decisions for their characters while also providing them with information and tips that can be applied to their own lives.
