Sea Monster helped the Takealot Delivery Team create a mobile learning app for their staff.

The app was designed to support both on-going training as well as the initial training process of on-boarding drivers for Takealot managers and franchisees.

The Takealot Delivery Team, formally Mr D Courier, is a South African specialist delivery service, providing door-to-door deliveries on behalf of Takealot, Superbalist, Mr D Food and FNB Credit Card.

Delivering a wide range of online purchases to South Africans across the country, the freshly rebranded service relies on a fleet of top-notch drivers to fulfil customer orders. To keep this ‘constantly on the move’ team well trained, the Takealot Delivery Team required a scalable solution to distribute ongoing regulatory updates and customer service tips that could be accessed and used by all employees.

Assessable, learning tool to be used on the move.

We developed a WebGL application, enabling the full interactivity of the developed training content to be accessible via a mobile device and the web.

To test driver’s knowledge and skills, we introduced gamification to the onboarding testing process, in the form of a soccer themed game,. By playing the game, drivers score goals to gain fans, with each player requiring 600 fans before qualifying to be a Takealot Delivery Team driver. A game leader board allows each player to see how far they are in the challenge thus driving competition amongst the applicants to gain more fans and complete the test.

To support the on-boarding process and on-going training and information sharing, we developed a combination of interactive content including, animated explainer videos and infographics, which form a integral part of the visual learning process. We also allowed social sharing to the Takealot Delivery Team’s communication channels, such as Whatsapp, to push the teams to interact with the learning content.

The solution gives the Takealot Delivery Team managers access to a detailed dashboard in order to track driver progress and identify where extra training is required.
